What about a free disposable email address?

Oh, you are looking for a free one-time email address for carefree signup? Unfortunately, this is not the place to get one. Keep on searching.

OK then, what is it all about?

You run a website, a forum or blog, do email marketing or want to give away whitepapers to prospects, provide demo-software for a limited time to registered users? So you probably want to get rid of users with fake email addresses for several reasons. Me too!

That’s why I started the project “block-disposable-email.com” in March 2011. The aim is to help serious-minded companies and individuals to reduce the number of anonymous subscribers in order to prevent userbase contamination by one-time accounts.

This service can be used to detect suspicious email addresses instantly – it’s like an everytime up-do-date local blacklist. Currently 5.468 domains with one-time mail services are beeing detected and we answered 1.461.021 queries so far (latest 4 minutes ago). Please keep in mind that such a service is never finalised as the domains providing fake accounts are changing continuously (last added domain to block is ze#####.com at 2012-05-16 06:30:14).

Why should I use this service?

Questions like “why do I need the service, I use captcha” or “my users have to double-opt in, the given email addresses do exist” have already been answered. Have a look at the FAQ section to find out more about the nuances making this service possibly useful for you.

How to use it.

The service can be access via a very simple TXT based api as well as a bit more sophisticated and prefered JSON based api. It’s relatively easy to include an api query to your signup process to check if new subscribers are trying to use disposable email addresses. Examples for PHP are included in the api descriptions (see TXT api, JSON api, php serialized api).

No programming skills? No problem: use available plugins for well known systems like WordPress, phpBB, Drupal and others. See FAQ for further information.

If you have any suggestions to improve the service or any questions please see FAQ or contact me.

Is this a free service?

Yes (for up to 200 queries per month) and no (for higher volume, see pricing). Even if you use only the free version you get the same quality as paying users.

Are there similar services out there?

Yes and no. Some of them (mostly free ones) do not exist anymore – which is bad for users who already integrated those services. Some others are currently trying to copy the API and the content I provide here. I am sure the web is big enough for several similar services. But what is the difference? I try hard to provide the best service which means to me a high rate of known bad (and currently used) domains, a small number of false positives, a high uptime (eg. based on currently 3 independend servers) and fast response times (eg. by different server locations). And of course – this service is designed to exist for a long period of time.

In short words?

This service can help you stay one step ahead of the game in ensuring that your userbase is fake-free.
